1 should be writing the segments of 16th, 17th April 1945 but have been side tracked the last few days.
When talking to Charlie Brown some days ago, memory sprang to life. Charlie had been my troop commander on and off since August1944. About the time we left Wervik in Belgium Charlie Brown was posted to battery Captain 37th Bty.
Captain David Armour was posted to take command of Fox Troop and he fitted in well with our troop officers and myself as the troop sergeant major. We all worked as well with him as we had our long time troop Captain Charlie Brown. Our other troop officers at this time were Lt Art DeBelle as gun position officer, and Lt Alex Ross as troop leader. Fox troop was well and truly in good fitting shape complete with our allotted number of guns and all the rest of our equipment. I would think that at this time most but not all the fox troop personnel had been on leave to England and returned.
Capt Armour loaned me his automatic pistol and took instead a sten gun. I will write more about this Espano automatic when I write the Otterloo segments. You will note that I keep putting off writing the Otterloo segments and keep going back in memory instead of getting on with the memoirs. I will do so and will likely explain somewhere down the line why I have been slow writing about that time so long ago.
